Division of domestic responsibilities between working partners during a (COVID-19) lockdown period.

     

   

      INTRODUCTION

      In genesis chapter we need that the first thing God did after creating ADAM and  EVE “in his image male and female” to believe them a shared responsibility. Mutual corporation was basic to the divine design for marriage from the very beginning.

    When man and women enter into the relationship on marriage they may not known the division of  labour would be handled. If they both are working person they have gather a clear idea about their role in household.

     As I live in a countryside village, not more families are there where we can get such kind of couple i.e. both are working. But soon after my father gave me information of this family which I am going to give details of domestic responsibilities.

     Amit Kumar Malik (38), a “ High School Teacher of Keshary High School ”  lives here in rent of my uncles house with his spouse (34), daughter (5) and his father (63). Amit uncle’s wife Rupali is the “Primary School Teacher” of  Primary School. Amit uncle’s working place is 22 km away from there rent house, Where as Rupali aunty’s office 2 km away of house.

      NORMAL DAYS OF AMIT UNCLE AND RUPALI AUNTY

      During their normal working period Amit uncle have to leave house to market to buy household essentials and Rupali aunty made the breakfast for all. Then she took care of his father in-law. Then she started his duty with her daughter. Make has ready for school. After that their maid came and started cooking for family. Then Amit uncle used to go first , and after 1 hour Rupali aunty follows him as well left the house for her school.

   

        DURING “COVID-19 LOCKDOWN” PERIOD OF AMIT UNCLE AND   RUPALI AUNTY

       As “COVID-19 Lockdown”  is going on now their role in the household changed in some areas. I have made a time table following them.

10.00 AM	With daughter and his father passing some quality time with them	Went for bath

      During COVID-19 Lockdown period showing the responsibility mean to recognize their own part of work time  to be done at household.

      During COVID-19 pandemic situation everybody suddenly locked themselves inside their home. Only in case of emergency situation created, nobody come out of their house. Working and non-working ever type of public stayed inside home Amit uncle and his family also stayed inside their rent house. They could not return to their house. So, they have to stayed here. They also bought their daily essential things for his family. As they both are working person, so they have to keep a maid in their house. But during LOCKDOWN the made also absent so, they have to do their household duty by their own. Though they do not divided their role during this days but both have different role in the household and some womens are there where they do together.

      In the morning Amit uncle wake up at 7.00 am , and his wife also follows him. After leaving the bed quickly go to the washroom. Aunty, his wife enters to the kitchen for making tea for her household. Because her household used to go to the market early. Amit uncle come out of the washroom sat on the sofa aunty serve tea and she also went into the washroom. At 5.00 am Amit uncle leves home for the local vegetable market. Aunty takes tea then sweep the house and to make some breakfast for his daughter and father in-law. Then she went to the bed room and awake his daughter and help her to be fresh , and make her ready for breakfast. She also her father in-law and serve breakfast to them at 8.30 am.

      Amit uncle returned home at 9.00 am and assemble the vegetable in a basket. On the other hand aunty is there with her daughter for some lesson work. She were there till 10.00 am with her daughter. Here uncle entered to the washroom again for taking a full shower as he come back from the market. After bathing he takes some food. At 10.00 am uncle sit on with his father and daughter watching T.V and aunty trying to make vegetables for cook, cutting them as per their menu. Aunty makes the rice , then started to cook the vegetables. She will makes the whole launch menu for all. As uncle could not cook, so he starts cleaning the tables, chair, dishes and bowls. They always took part in role presently . Nobody build extra pressure one anyone. They are helpful and take the whole duty as per their abilities.

      When aunty cooks uncle trying to finish some other household work which have to done as per schedule on the table uncle serve the food of all, aunty fed her daughter after completing the launch they both help each other to clean the table ,dishes and bowls.

      After cleaning the dishes they got rest for two hours with watching T.V or gossiping their selves. Then at the afternoon they playing ludo together. They always share their work, they did not decided previously anything. But according to situation they entered to their role quickly where they  needed . Specially Amit uncle is very pro-active as per given chart of their timing.

      As per the chart aunty always doing her duty accordingly which their maid did during normal days as before COVID-19 pandemic, like cooking, making tea, serve snakes and uncle is playing the role of normal day’s aunty’s role .

In the whole world, if the partners are laying there role accordingly, the family will be happy always.
